I currently have 55 gallon tank with a Red Sea Wavemaker, the WVMKR has 2 maxijet 600s and 2 1200s. The 1200s are at opposite sides of the tank, one being along the back on the sandbed pushing water behind the base of LR and the other is in the front top pushing water along the top. The 2 600s are on opposite sides of the overflow box and pushing water diagnal to the front corners. I also a sqwd device on either side pushing water straight out.

I have the usual assortment of hermit crabs, cleaner & peppermint shrimp and emerald crab. I also have 3 damsels. They all don't seem to mind the water flow but I just introduced an open brain and I've noticed a section that is turning white along the outer rim. I am concerned that this might be the skeleton being exposed by too high of a flow. I have is secured in between some LR and the rest of the coral is healthy.

Is this a correct assessment? Should I move the coral to another part of the tank that has less flow, no water is directed at it but it still may be too much. Thanks for any help.

With two mj 1200's, and two 600s and the sqwds in a 55, I don't think you have too much flow, of course I am in the "more flow is a good thing" camp.

You might need to look for spots where the open brain isn't getting hit directly with one of the 1200's. Open brains do tend to prefer lower water flow. If it looks like the flesh is getting blown too roughly then I would certainly move it, although if you have only very recently placed it in the tank it just may not have gotten around to fully expanding yet. Give it a day and see if it is looking better and then reassess placement.
