Hmm. Fine in theory, but all this stuff about being able to convert it to a calcium reactor after the nitrates have been dealt with sounds a bit odd. You'll have to deal with the underlying cause of excess nitrates to stop them coming back, and if you're doing that anyway, you don't need an expensive bit of kit like this, you just need some water changes and a change in approach.
If you had one already populated and ready to go when you get a nitrate emergancy, say a dead animal you didn't can't get out overwhelming your live rock, it might be neat. The fact that it takes 3 weeks to colonize with bacteria is very limiting, so I guess it would probably be best for an overloaded LFS tanks or something like that.
seemed like a cool gadget. I have a well establishe system with very good parameters.... I got a buddy though who is a soup sandwhich and can't get his trates under control. thought it might be a long term hold his hand type thing so he can get his trates under control then ween his system off of the reductor.....
