I just built a new house and we will be moving in about 3 weeks. So I am interested in keeping my aquarium small but improving the look of my "Rig" so that my wife doesn't throw a fit when I move my tank into the new house.

She seems to think that a bare tank sitting on a rolling butcherblock/kitchen island with electrical cords zip-tied to the legs, would detract from the decor in the new livingroom. I on the other hand have no problem with it. This is why I am not allowed to decorate.

I have been looking at the Oceanic 30 gallon cube/Stand combo. It is a very attractive set up, with plenty of room below for a mini-sump etc...

My question is, has anyone ever had one drilled? Was it the Back or the bottom? ( bottom tempered?)
If so, how did it do? Would you have done something differently?

Thanks in advance.[/b]

Don't drill the bottom. Pretty sure it's tempered. I drilled mine in the back. I drilled two holes at the top, then built an internal overflow box. It works fine. It's not as quiet as I would like, but most of the noise comes from the pvc pipe as the water flows down to the sump. I haven't done any tweaking cause the tank is in the bedroom and...uhm, my wife likes it loud. (apparently she's hoping the white noise will compete with my snoring....)

I drilled the holes using a 'Rotozip' with a tile cutting bit. It was tense, but really no problem at all.

Here's the tank: http://users.bwsys.net/~dkka/30gal.html

Not allowed to decorate either,

That tank looks great!
I was thinking about having her stepfather ( cabinet maker ) construct me something very similar to that cabinet you have. It might match better.

What does the canopy look like? Open top? Closed?

The more I see that tank, the more I know I want one.

Dew, It has a hinged top, I just haven't installed it. I left it off for better gas/heat exchange. The whole thing is pretty tall, so it isn't all that obvious that there is no top on it, but it would certainly look better with it on. Maybe this winter I'll get around to putting the lid on it, that would make my wife happy. She very supportive, but I don't think she always likes it when I sacrafice aesthetics for funcionality. ie: I had to ditch my auto topp off system....for some reason she didn't think the 5 gallon bucket sitting on the nightstand went with the rest of our room decor (you can see why I"m not allowed to decorate!)

Oh, and I didn't build that stand. I had it built ready-to-assemble from a custom stand builder on ebay (John Thorman) He was great!
I had him make the canopy tall enough to accomodate MH should I decide to upgrade at some point. And it has both the hinged top, and a small front access door.

Well, the stand looks very good anyway.
I will look for John on EBAY, maybe he's still offering his services.

The Auto topoff will be tricky for me as well. I may have to install a cabinet above the tank. Let's see what she thinks of the tank first! :)
