Hi everyone, I was going through volume 2 of "The Reef Aquarium" by Sprung and Delbeek and I was curiuos if anyone has ever kept a coral called Clavularia sp. There is a picture of it on pg 168 for anyone who has the book. Through out the book there are a lot of different variations to corals that look very similar to it and I thought I read that it isn't kept very successfully in the home aquarium. Seeing as how the book is several years old I was hoping that might have changed, anyone have any input?

Ive never kept them, but should be fairly easy to keep..They need moderate light and water movement...

How long have you had your tank setup and what are the dimensions..Curiosity sake

Nikon, since I joined the military I had to break down my reef tank so as of right now I don't have a reef tank and Hawaii has banded the keeping of all corals. Luckily I'm moving in about two months and will be making a custom acrylic aquarium, stand, hood and DIY'ing metal halide light. As of right now I believe I will be running a 250watt MH with a Berlin Protein skimmer and a sump/refugium w/ macro algae. I have all the plans for the tank and everything now I'm just planning on corals I was a lot of LPS and other softies a clam or two and maybe, just maybe if I find an SPS I like I might put it in there (obviously close to the top).

I have the stuff growing like a weed in the bottom of a 30" tank with 400w MH bulbs. I got 2 tiny stalks of it about 6 months ago, and both stalks have grown into colonies covering rocks the size of softballs.

Awesome Soulfigter that makes me hopeful that not only will I be able to find it but I'll be able to have it spread. Could you shoot me a PM with any dosing you do? Do you have any similar corals to it?

Often it seems that clav does very well for a year and then dies back, then it seems to surge back. Mine seems to be doing well at all light levels.

easy coral to keep - no special requirements, other than the usual stuff, good light, current, and water quality :)

Mine grows like a weed, it creeps u the tank walls and all over the LR. I have to prune it back regularly.
