I am also considering a stronger skimmer to strip my tank of excess nutrients.

I have a 58G tank currently running a Euroreef ES5-3.

What would be a better skimmer? I tried a MyReef MR-a originally and was not too fond of it.

Bubble King, Deltec and H&S skimmers are the brands that are considered better than Euroreef's.

I have a BK and think it's the bomb.

Lots of money for any of those three brands though.

I like my ER. I am planning on getting a bigger one for the next tank.

auqa c urchin or remora, with the spray indicution system. Go to the aqua C site check out what they have, and I have YET so see a bad review from users of thier skimmers to date.

Personally if I had a Euroreef I wouldn't be looking to get a "better" skimmer unless I just had money pouring out of my pockets :D

Aero former is a great skimmer. I have one that I ran on a 220 that was loaded, worked very well, easy to maintain. The one I have is the second generation he's made a few more inprovements and makes it even easier to clean.

did you see the sticky at the top of the forum?

I just bought a reefmania ps-8... the thing is AWESOME!... pulls out nasty stuff!

If i had to do it all over again and money was no object. I would prolly go with a deltec or another reefmania skimmer.

Len's skimmer is great. if you check his tank thread you can see the milk in the chamber. Now those eheims put out some fine bubbles... 8O

I looked at that thred. Was more convered for a skimmer for a tank my size.

The MRC skimmer was too eratic. Would skim one day then stop the next and need adjusting.

:?

Ok, now I'm feeling a bit inadequate and confused..

I'm only running a ER ES5-2 on a 72 - in just a 12 hour cycle..

And.. since I recently added a few hungry juvenille fish (including a juv. hippo tang) I've been feeding quite a bit, but don't feel I need a bigger skimmer at all (otherwise I'd run it more than 12 hours at a shot..)

Is your 5-3 really working that hard to pull stuff out?? (Should I be concerned my 5-2 won't keep up in the long run???)

Are you running it at night?

If corals look good and you don't have nuisance algae you are probably fine.

Nope, running it during the day to catch as much food excess as possible.

Had some hair that started before I put the skimmer in thats still being cleaned up but its definitely going into remission and corals look fine.

Oxygen levels will fall when the lights are out, so I think I would choose to have it on at night. Also mine doesn't skim as well when feeding due to oils in the food.
