Far cry from what it used to look like, a lot of the branching corals have been thinned out to make growing room for the massive stuff, like the Montastreas. Some of the corals are still recovering from a cooling system failure.

If you like it you like it, if you don't you don't.

Tiny Montastrea annularis chiseled off a 70 year old wooden/iron pier wall that was being demolished in Key West. The smallish Diploria strigosa behind it came from the same place. These are both from a FKNMS "rescue" permit that the institution holds.

Looks great! I believe you mentioned what type of lighting in past threads, but I don't recall...what is it again?

Nice pics, too.

Is the general public allowed to harvest corals from structures that have been demolished?

No!

Any structures that are undergoing change within the sanctuary are VERY closely monitored by Sanctuary staff for coral impacts.

There is no way for the general public to get corals from the sanctuary.

Single 400 watt Iwasaki. I'm a diehard, I love the bulbs and have been using them for almost a decade.

What about other parts of the gulf. The company I work for sometimes recovers structures that sometimes have corals on them.

Far as I know, it's illegal to possess or collect them, not just in the Sanctuary.

I'll post updates on this thread probably every month or so to share how it fills in. I've never done a tank like this before so...
