Hmmm, gluing frags to unglazed ceramic tile. Hmmm. That could be interesting.

I guess I'm not suprised. Just skip the starboard and go with tile.

Yup. Look it up Its prety cool, but its more expensive than most live rock when you figure in the cost of getting it fired in a Kiln. :(

I was talking about the use of ceramic for live rock. :)
The tile would be cool too. I bet it would encrust with coraline like mad, as well as offer beneficial bacteria surface.

Yes, and it would be modular. Also, it would be easy to remove and break to sell or trade corals or to frag them. You could easily chip the tile down to any size you wanted and later glue it to LR.

I understood your reference to the pricey synthetic LR, FragMaster. That stuff is very cool, but I have way too many places that I'd like to spend my reefing money on before buying that stuff.

Ceramic live rock? Cool. Would you mind starting another thread on this?

Maybe Fragmaster can start the thread. I don't know where I saw pictures of ceramic LR - CORAL mag, perhaps? I do think that unglazed white tile would be a good bottom for a BB reef tank with LR. I'm certain that it has been done before, I just forgot until now.

If a new thread is started please provide a link in this thread.

Personally I think it's a bit silly to have any kind of hard artificial substrate at the bottom of the tank like tile or starboard. I think a BB is nice for maintenance, but what's the point of laying a piece of plastic over it?

Faux sandbeds are cool looking. Does anyone have a link to how to make one? I'm curious what is used to stick the sand together.

Primarily to protect the bottom glass from falling rock. Also, it would be good way to remove animals that might attach themselves to the substrait.

Matt it may sound silly but what if it could save our reefs?
Check seahorse.org and search for diy live rock using ceramic clay.
A poster there has used it and is still using it today in his reef.
Thats where I got my information from.

I was referring to starboard and tile, not the live rock. I think it's a great idea!
