The species profile of the Marine Betta is full of errors. I have kept marine bettas for many years. My current one is 14 years old. BTW, I have not seen the pattern of spots change on any I have owned. I can tell you that they definately grow to more than 6-8 inches. The photo doesn't even match the scientific name of the fish. The article said that they haven't been raised in captivity. Someone should tell that to Sea Quest Hatcheries and some other fisheries that have sold captive bred Marine Bettas!

There are two species. The one in the photo in that article is an argus not an altivelas.

Check out this link for more info on Marine Bettas

That wasn't written by Ron Shimek. He's not all that happy bout it either

Disclaimer!
Hi Folks,

If any of you purchase and read "Marine Fish And Reef" 2006 and see an article titled:

"Got a Big Tank to Fill?" with me listed as the author

I did not write this article.

The article was written by Pete Mohan.

The editors who produced the magazine screwed up and mistakenly put me down as the author of this article.

Hi,
Anyone knows where I can find those articles, LFS or online?

thanks,

Kevin

It's a magazine and it's for sale in most major bookstore and large pet store chains. I saw it at Barnes and Noble this week.

I haven't gotten this one yet. I have to say that last years was the weakest of the bunch, and I hope the trend doesn't continue. This line up of articles sounds interesting to me.
