Lionfish and Eel companions?

I have a 125 setup w/ a 3' yellow headed green moray and a somewhat largish Black Valentia Lionfish. The tank contains some coral, nothing fancy and a Spotted Hawkfish. The hawk has done fine for the past year (lots of LR) Anyhow I am wanting to add a few more fishies to the tank and was wondering what would be suitable that wouldn't get ate and wouldn't eat any of the soft coral (zoo's, shrooms, kenya tree, etc..).

Also is it ok to feed Comets to the lion/eel? I've been doing so but would rather feed a saltwater feeder fish instead. Suggestions??

It's not okay to feed comets to the lion/eel long term. Bad diet. You should try weaning them over to frozen seafood, like pieces of chopped shrimp, squid, fish, etc.

I'd stick with the bioload you have with the tank right now. That's a lot of waste, even for a 125. Got any pictures? Sounds like a cool tank.

You can get them to eat seafood, I would wiggle a piece of squid around a bit and then let it drop and my lion always gulped it down.

And there are few fish that would make it in that tank with the Lion and the hawkfish. Most of them would become food for one or the other and if you chose a mean enough fish it would harrass your lion.

I would like to see a pic too, I love lionfish.


Oh, you could be really cruel and waste a lot of money by putting damsels in there, the lion will get them eventually but it is entertaining...


I don't think that I should of suggested that though, its not very nice to the damsels.

It would be better if you could afford tank raised fish like clowns for the lion.

go to your local fish bait store and get live salt water shrimp. They are about $2.50 a dozen here and all my fish love them
