If it's alive and found it's way in there, he'll find its way out. But to answer your original question, hermit crabs occassionally attack and kill other hermits, snails, etc. It's partially territorial, and partially because they want the shells. I find that when I keep a lot of hermits, it almost always dwindles down to a population of a few larger hermits. I'm not a big fan of hermits myself.
