I’m upgrading to a 90g AGA with the Megaflow overflow kit. AGA says the Megaflow is rated for “up to 600 gph”, but what is a typical actual flow rate? What (max) return pump flow rate is a good match?

Also, I’m debating between the AquaC Urchin Pro and EV-120 – any thoughts? I’ll have 100+ lbs of live rock, a 30g custom sump/refugium, and plan to keep just soft corals and a light fish bioload.

Thanks.

I've got a 70 RR from Oceanic that has the exact same overflow and Oceanic gave me the same recommended flow rate. I'm now using a Mag 9.5 for return. From my pump to the top of my tank is exactly 5 feet. I'm getting somewhere around 800-825 gph flow and the overflow is working flawlessly. I also installed a y connector in the return pipe and cut out both sides of the overflow box and now have dual return nozzels.

I'm using a Euro-Reef CS 5-3 Skimmer and it is working great. I think a skimmer of it's size would be plenty for you. Asm..etc. Hope this helps you.

Get the EV-120. It's much better then the Urchin model. For your size tank, I'd recommend you look bigger (the EV-180).

The AGA overflow will handle 600gph going through it, so get a pump that has <600gph after head loss. You can always put a valve on the outlet to reduce flow if necessary.

Hi.

I had a 90g AGA also... I used an EV-180 and it worked great. If i were you i would order the one with john quest fitting. you never know when you will want to use it.

Len is correct on the overflow rating... you will not see much better than 600-650gph thru a 1" overflow. I used a durso standpipe for mine and it worked great.

the asm skimmers are good also. it depends on what you want really. AquaC makes a great skimmer. so does ASM. I have use ASM, EuroReef, and AquaC. I love my Euro-reef and AquaC. I was happy with my ASM but my Euro-reef is far better made.

at the top of this forum is a list of skimmer companies.. take a look around. you can get some ideas on setup...

good luck.

I am happy with ASM. They make a good skimmer at a good price.
