I'm about to buy a skimmer and have two questions. First my stand is 27" tall and I am unsure if I'll have trouble emptying the collection cup on a 24" skimmer. How much room do I need to take the cup off?

Also, I was going to buy a CS-6, but now it looks like they've changed model numbers. What's up with that? Seems like a scheme to make more money. Now I'm between the CS 135 and the CS 100. The 135 is 24" up to 135 gallons and 100 is 20" and 100 gallons.

I have a 110 plus about 20 gal sump with six small/med sized fish, toadstools, LPS and zoos. I don't necessarily need much skimming as I've run the tank for years skimmerless, but if I'm going to buy one I want to get the appropriate size so I could use it for future set ups with this particular tank.

What do you guys think?

You will have no problems with a 24" tall skimmer in a 27" tall stand. The cup needs no more then 1/4" of clearance because it is a true union coupling.

I'd disregard the model number changes and get the one that is 24" tall, 6" diameter (which would be the CS6-2). It worked great on my 120g.

You'll even be fine with the CS100. From what I've seen and read, ER's outskim other brand's models that are rated much higher.

ReefTiger, I'd take LA-Lawman up on his offer. I have a CS 6-2, and I wouldn't have minded going with the CS 8-2. That extra two inches should give a lot more skimming capacity.

Does anyone know what the water level must be in the sump for the skimmer to run correctly? Does it make a difference?

As long as the pump's intake is fully submersed by one or two inches, you're fine. The outlet can be adjusted via a riser tube. That said, I think you need at least 4" of water, but 5" to be safe.
