I have searched for for advice on taking pictures, but I cant seem to find any. I have a Nikkon 5600, and I can't seem to take a worthwhile pic of my tank. They come out way too bright. I have tried -2 to 2 exposure, and other options. Can anybody help me out with the right settings to get a good picture? Also, once I take a picture worth posting, how do I actually get it linked on the website? I know nothing about computers! Thanks for the help!

I looked at your camera on dpreview. It appears it does not have a full manual mode so there is not much more you can do other than put it at -2. Unfortantly this may not be the best camera for aquarium photos. May be a good point and shoot but does not include a lot of the functions wanted for such photos. Despite this here are a few tips:

Make sure you are not using a flash, will produce much better colours and lighting

Try to make your lens as perpendicular to the glass as possible

Try using one of the scene modes, maybe an outdoor mode where it expects bright light may help you

The good news is it should allow a macro photo as close as 1.6in and also has a shutter speed that can go up to 1/3000 sec (so there is no excuse for an overexposure except the camera getting bad readings)

The last thing I can suggest is you may be able to help your images more with a little post editing. Look at using www.gimp.org or something.

Hope this helps a bit, it is hard to get profession quality photos from a point and shoot. So if that is what your looking for you may be disapointed. But there is no reason you should not be able to get a complete tank photo to share with us or anything.

To get the pictures in a post like this one, just hit post reply at the bottom, then when the new window opens up where you enter your post look near the bottom.

There is a line with the word Filename a blank area and a browse button.

click browse and go find the pic you want to attach.

A good size for pictures on a bulletin board is 640 by 480
