Are you asking about the bubble algae or aiptasia?
Or something else?

See the one leather is all closed and gray?

I have seen all my leathers in the whole tank do this after a major water change and a lot of sand and dirt in the water column cleaning, but I have never seen just one do it.

I am wondering if its too close to the condy, but the thing that makes me think that is not the case is that its not the closest piece, the one in the back is actually a couple inches closer.

The other thing is my fish keep laying on top of them, I am not sure if that could be irritating it.

The last thought I have is that my silly rock anenome shrunk up the other day and spewed out some kind of gooey stuff. I am wondering if that had anything to do with it.

Any ideas? Or should I just quit being a worrywart and go and work on my new 1.5 cup freshwater planted nano....

The bubble algae has been on that piece since I brought it home about a year and a half ago, it hasn't really spread much so I ignore it.

Aiptasia? I hope your joking about that one....

They could be irritating the leather, yes.

Probably just expelling waste, which shouldn't be a problem

Any ideas? Or should I just quit being a worrywart and go and work on my new 1.5 cup freshwater planted nano....

I'd be more concerned with what looks like cyano and aiptasia.

David Mohr

Where do you see the aiptasia?

I was pretty sure I would recognize that stuff after all I have read about it....

Could it be the yellow polyps?

I will go get a close up of them so you can give me a positive id.

be back in a minute, got to set up me tripod...

Yeah I think he sees the yellow polyp that is on the right side of the bleeny shot. I wouldn't worry about the leather Chrispy, just keep an eye on it. Sometimes leathers do that, close up and then shed a waxy layer of guck which should be blasted away with a turkey baster.

Here are what I was told were Yellow Polyps, and since they were yellow, and polyp looking I believed.....

They don't seem to be doing to terribly well, I moved them to the current spot because the current in the last spot was a bit much I think, they were looking rather sad....

I took a bunch of pics of the bubble algae, and none of them came out, its very hard to focus on a shiny bubble

I am thinking that most of my algae problems will disappear after a couple of months, the sump is being moved to the basement and enlarged by 25 gallons, the water change and top of water will be changing from my tap water to RO/DI water, and flow in the tank will again be improved by yet more modifications to the "Knuckleflow"

Anyway, back to the Finger leather, the fish do not seem to sit on this piece as much as the other one, and I just spied out two small spots on the one they do sit on that are discolored like this.

How exactly does one address Cyano?

I tried standing in front of the tank dressed all in black and screaming obsenities at it, but this seems to have accomplished little more than a general mood of irritation from the wifely unit....
