Expecting things to happen fast.

Not understanding that even doing 'everything' the same as another person, you may not get the same results, because your tank is not his/hers! Every reef is different.

- Listening to a LFS employee that didn't know anything, cost me hundreds of dollars in worthless equipment.

- Not reading enough before purchasing livestock/equipment

- Not joining a local reef club early enough (they saved me hundreds)

- Buying livestock that should not be sold (sand sifting stars, margarita snails, most astrea snails, etc)

- Trying to push things too fast

Not buying a big enough tank to start. Starting as big as you can is best.



Not researching enough before buying equipment and critters.


Listening to my LFS. As if their word was law and not just to make a sale.
