FWIW, I've been using it for about 6-8 months now and have been very happy with it. I just reused my old B-ionic containers for the calcium and alkalinity solutions. :)

Now another question, is it very important that you measure by weight or can you measure by the cup?? i currently dont have acess to a scale to measure this.

I don't know - I also use it but I measure by weight. I go through a gallon in about 2-3 months.

cjsrch - the R-ionic (Randy's two part solution) also contains trace elements. The are called "impurities". The question is if the solutions on the market come closer to the correct quantities. Randy provides the answer in a later article: "NO!". The ones on the market are exactly the same (!!! use the same source) as R-ionic or worse.

One thing that you might want to think about is that some of the major 'alternate' ionic compunds (the -Cl in the MgCl) should be dilluted regularly if you are using this suppliment set. IIRC, Randy advocates a healthy water change regimen if you are using this calcium/alk suppliment.

I use it in combination with commercial B-Ionic

Now if only he could post a formula for salt mix .... :D

Randy helped me out with a very basic formula to use for my brine shrimp raising operation, but I use it half and half with I.O. in my fish ownly tanks.

Simply,
Calcium chloride 5 ounces
magnesium sulphate 1 lb 11 ounces
sodium chloride (evaporated water sofener salt) 6 lbs.

Makes about 32 gals at 1.025-1.026.
