I wouldn't just because I typically let my chaeto and other stuff be free floating, so my skimmer pump can very easily clog up.

12 " high ????

there no room in there for a skimmer let a lone a good refuge

15"X23"x12"
what are you planing on skimming with ? a empty bik pen ?

your not even going to have space to work on refuge

now let me get this right just to make sure

your total space is 15x23x12 or is that just the sump

eather way thats no where near as big as it should be fore a tank that size

IMHO

I agree with raymans concerns. I would think that for a 160 you would have mor like 48" or 60" by 24" by 30" under your stand. Is It a built in? For a 160 I would think that you would want a skimmer that will probably be at least 20" tall. Can you give us some more details? Just for curiousities sake if anything.

the make of the skimmer would be nice as well

i have a turbofloater 1000 in my sump ( 125 gal tank 60 gal sump ) and its not enough for my light stock level

i'm in the process of building two AP skimmers to help out,

mind you i'm also going to be carrying a variable heavy load ( i'm importing fish for local sales ) with out doing that i might be ok with that skimmer

That is 2" deeper than the size of the present sump- I fgured a little bit of refuge would be better than none at all. The size is not an option, as the tank is built in the wall between the kitchen and dining room, and the cupboard underneath is the only space. The other cupboard underneath has pumps, uv, and chiller. Would I do less skimming with a fuge? I have a Kent Nautilus TE, which is the original that the person set up my tank with. I was going tobuy a Deltec APF600, but was told too much skimmimg is in opposition to a fuge.

True.

Get the Deltec.

Too much skimming is a good thing IMHO. While your cheato won't grow as fast in a heavily skimmed tank, your water will be cleaner and your chances of an nuisance algea outbreak will be less. That is your goal. Growing macro's in not you goal. I have yet to harvest any cheato out of my fuge and it's been in there for 6 months. I may have to harvest some for the first time in another few months.

I kinda figured it was a built in when you refered to the space underneath the tank as a cupboard as opposed to stand....
Ya...... Everyone loves a nice built in.. Wheres the pics?

I thought I read somewhere that overskimming lowers PH. Or was that Alkalinity? Am I misunderstanding?
