Ok, dilemma time. Was at my LFS picking up an urchin (now dubbed 'Itchy') and they had a cute little mantis that was a hitchiker in some LR. They're not sure of the species, but he is a smasher.

I love these little guys and am really wondering if I should go ahead and make the dive. They're asking $38 for him which is a bit high, but he's the only Mantis I've seen here in Phoenix.

So basically, I'm looking for someone to give me a gentle nudge over the edge with something to delight and dazzle my g/f when I tell her I'm gonna buy him!

I've already got experience with small species tanks - jellyfish in 1gal (c. xamanchana) and debelius reef lobster in my 10 (see my nano entry)

Sooo..I'm thinking a 10gal or nice looking 5gal and he'll go next to Squishyjelly and Lyle (the lobster)

...oh...and it's been waaay too long since I've been online here...life gets in the way, ya know? I'll get some new pics to post of my tanks and other critters shortly -- was also have a new Sulcata tortoise we rescued...turns out they are the 3rd largest land tortoise in the world

Why, oh why can't I just be content with pet rocks?

Go to this site and check out the mantis forum. After reading some of the post, the fact sheets seeing some of the pics and post she will not be able to resist them. YOu should have no problem with a mantis if you are adept at keeping the lobster.

I really enjoyed my mantis tank. Try and put the tank somewhere that you can just relax and watch him carry on his little antics. I had mine on an end table in the living room.

Well, the mantis is on hold. Lost a video card and she needed her Sims2 fix. So I gave her mine and upgraded the one I had

Have to check the $$ situation and see if we still have extra left for one.
I need another tank, sand, and live rock.

Would one of those small nanofilters be enough filtration/water movement? As for skimming, I was looking into a new nano skimmer that's like $30(link escapes me at the moment)

What kinda corals/softies could I/should I keep w/him?

LOL tons more questions.

Thanks all!

Mantis shrimp are so cute. I have a hitchhiker in a breeder container floating in my 65. I still need to figure out what to do with him :? tank wise. I named him Rocky cause he beat the sh*t out of (and killed) a yellow watchman and a pistol shrimp in some customer's tank. They braught him in and I got him for free

You'll love him. They are so much fum to watch :D
