I always liked fishing in the ocean. You catch something different everytime. Not like Ohio where your assured of catching a blue gill every cast (at least I am).

Fishing in the ocean can be very fun. Full of adventure and even scary right off shore. For instance, A four foot skate literally eating the glove off your hand as your taking the hook out of its mouth. A large dark shadow passing under the skiff, then a 60 foot whale surfaces within 40 feet of you. Or getting a tsunami warning over the radio, high tailing it back to your ship, and then sucking kelp into the cooling intake. Your now stranded at sea. :) Four years in Alaska. I could tell stories all day

I'd bet those folks were quite leary of bringing that thing on board. :D  :D

It truely is a small world. Maybe your my other half? We do after all have the same name spelled the same way . BTW there are about seven ways to spell Duane.

Back to that oar fish.. If that is a juevenile. Id be dammed scared to bring an adult on board if i didnt know anything about the species. Imagine what a wonder sailors had back in they days of long ago.

yeah Man thats realy only a juvenile.
They get 20 plus feet in length. They are believed to be the ancient giant sea serpents that sailors spoke of in high seas folklore.
They have washed up dead as recently as the early 90's over 20 feet in length.

My dad's friend caught a small one on our boat while tuna fishing off of san diego. It hit a small chrome jig. Unfortunately it came off before they got it on the boat but they did get a couple bad pictures. They say the pictures barely do the fish justice, though, it was apparently very very bright reflective silver, it didn't look real. I wish I had been there to see it. As Trido said, that's one of the great things of fishing in the ocean. You really never know what youre gonna catch.
