OK, so I talked to my LFS today.
As some of you may have remembered, I was waiting to set up this tank until the my LFS could order a new tank that was reef ready. My original Oceanic Cube is not drilled, and the bottom glass is tempered.
They were going to do me a favor and order a reef ready drilled with overflow, and just take my tank in return. I would pay the difference.
Well, he called me today and told me that it would be $223 +the tank to do this.
I told him to forget it... that was no favor.
So, now comes the decision.
Here are some of the low cost options.
1. Drill the tank in a couple of places in the middle of the back, and install a false back 2 inches from the actual tank back. I could cut surface skim slots into a section of it or drill the overflow into the top of the false back.
I would like to make it from black acrylic.
2. External overflow, not my favorite option. Noisey and takes up space behind the tank. But, an option nevertheless. I don't like having to rely on a siphon. If it breaks, the new floor is gone!
3. Internal overflow with holes in back of tank, similar to the first option, but only use a portion of the tank wall. Similar to ReefReady set up, except the durso stand pipe would extend up off an elbow connection (pointed up) since it is in the wall.
Please feel free to speak up with other ideas if you have them or if you don't have any, vote for one of mine.
If you own one of these cubes, show me your solution.
Any and all input is appreciated.
