Soon i will be setting up my fowlr 75g.

I already have a Little Giant 4-MDQX-SC pump. it will do 1080gph @6 feet of head.

I really wanna use this pump as my sump return and for my main flow.

so my questions are as follows:

#1 is this to strong for my sump (too many air bubbles)? and if it is can i baffle my sump so it would work without having to buy a smaller pump?

#2 is this pump a good amount of flow for a 75g fowlr tank?

#3 and if this pump is fine should i just split my return flow into a tee so i can have to jets feeding my tank on the return or maybee more? I was planning on using a T of 1 inch pvp and just using the returns at opposite ends of the tank. (total of 2 )

#4 also the sump/refugium will be bout 30g.

Thx in advance for your comments.

The more i look around this site and read the , more i feel i should get a smaller pump for my sump/refugium and use my little giant on a closed loop for circulation.

i also agree. i don't know about your setup, but they usually rate a 1" drain at about 600 gph, so for that return pump you would probably need 2 1" drains

#1. Too much flow into the sump = too much noise. You could always throttle the pump back, but it'd be more efficient to use it as a Closed loop pump and buy a pump suited exactly to the GPH @ head pressure you're running. What is the head pressure you'll be running the pump at? 2ft, 3ft, etc...

#2. Depending on head pressure it would work for either a Closed loop or a return.

#3. You could do that, but IMO it would be better to have 2 pumps. 1 for circulation and 1 for the sump/skimmer. That way if something "bad" happens to one of the pumps you still have some water flow. I also like to keep the plumbing simple. Mine plumbing is out of control. :D
