Optimal 75g sump return pump? in sump or out?

was thinking a mag7 or a small scale quiet1 , if i went for the inside sump.

But i hear that inside sump pumps add more heat then out of sump applications. I do not want my pump to add heat to my system or if any a small or a minimal amount.

What do u guys think?

What would be a nicly sized out of sump pump?

And is the temp increase of a in sump pump that big?

I like external pumps because they generally don't add as much heat (although there are exception cases) and IME I haven't had to clean them as often. OTOH submersibles are often quieter and require less plumbing (although some external models are also extremely quiet). Either way works fine...

Assuming your overflow can handle it (if this is a standard reef-ready tank you're fine), the Mag 7 would be a good choice for a return pump. If you want an external pump check out some of the smaller models in the quality brands like Iwaki, PanWorld, etc.

It somewhat depends on what you have in your sump.

Do you want slow or fast flow throw it? Is it a refugium/skimmer or just a skimmer-sump?

If you're concerned about heat, then go with an external pump. And decide the GPH based on what's being done in the sump.

well guys first off thx for the responces.

The sump will be a skimmer and a refugium.

My goal is to have just the basic good amount of flow threw the sump. I was thinking like 750 max gph for it. I dont mind a lighter flow on the return cause ill use a pump for circulation.

So 2 things i need to figure out are: What size drains i need for my internal overflow and a good external pump that matches the flow rate.

should one 1.5'"drain be good or should i use two 1" drains? and for the return i plan to T it into two returns. what size piping for the split return?

A 1.5" drain is more than enough IMO. Most folks don't like to push too much flow through the sump/overflow due to problems with noise, microbubbles, etc. Personally I would probably plumb the return with 1".
