I used both, but for the 150 tank that I need to modify, I wonder if it is worthwhile to spent $200+ to put in two overflow boxes, or use a CPR HOT overflow. The main advantage for the built-in overflow is the ease of plumbing, and safer (no need for aqualifter pumps) in case the siphon breaks.

Any idea?

(I have spare acrylic, but don't have the time to make overflow and glue the panels to the tank like I used to. Anybody know local acrylic fabricator that can do this for me in Southern California?)

ck, I don't know if Toecutter has the time or the tools needed to do clean "teeth" but he's in LA and worth asking. I know you're in a rush so that kinda rules out people like Lifereef. wetdryfilter.com does acrylic overflow custom jobs too, but I don't know how fast they are.

Personally, I'd go with a built-in overflow as I'm not a fan of HOT.

I am thinking that maybe I will put in flat (teethless) overflows, then add the comb/teeth later with a nylon screws or something. Does not look that professional, but at least that may solve the issue with cost (add-on comb is pretty cheap, and I have the spare blue acrylic for the body of the overflow) and time (need to move livestocks back, but everything look great this morning <knock on wood>). What do all of you think?

I am going to PM toecutter and see if he check email... any other idea?

CK, take a look at the overflows by Hurricanefilters.com.

I really like them... very easy and very quiet. I still have mine running on a friends tank.... it has never failed.

If you do not do it now you'll regret it. The HOTs are a PITA IMO.

Thanx everyone. I think I am going to bit the bullet and have a pair installed this weekend unless I find better deal. The Hurricanefilters.com does have pretty good price on their HOT overflows on sale.
