I think the one in the pic is a real (dead) gorgonian skeleton. It has pieces epoxied on in several places. That's all I know. I wouldn't use an artificial or real stony coral skeleton or live rock as a hitching post for horses. I think it's important they have a nice smooth surface to grab on to so they don't get scratched up.
