This morning I noted on my umbrella leather what looked like a blackish lump. I thought at first is a very small snail. I got the tweezers out to pick what ever it was off the leather. When I touched it it disingrated into powder. The place that it was on the leather disingrated as well. so now there is a little "cutout" on the leather. it seems to be doing fine.

Anyone ever hear of this ?

Thanks

Hey John,

This is actually a pretty common occurance. Leather Corals have a propesity to develop necrotic spots which will flake off upon contact. Remove as much of it as possible and keep observing the coral to see if the area gets worse. Usually the coral will heal but once in a while, the condition worsens. If the latter occurs, you'll have to cut off the bad tissue to save the colony.
