Do you think that a pair of Banggai Cardinals would breed in a 10 gal nano (with lots of LR and only for themselves)? If not, what's the minimum size?

Thanks,
Mihai

I think there is a good chance you could get them to breed in that seup.

You might ask Frank Marini over on the fish breeding forum on reef central.

They are a "still" breed of fish. They do not make their way around the tank like a crazy yellow tang or foxfish...perhaps they would, given healthy foods and good water conditions. I can't see why not.

They naturally found in the spines of urchins or branching hard corals, I would try a dark fake acropora coral for them to be comfortable in also not turbulent water.

I would give it a try.

Cool! Anything I can do to make it more comfy for them? What happens when the kids come out of the mouth? Do the parents eat them? If yes, would a Diadema urchin (I'll watch for enough algae for her/him) help?

The male takes the eggs and puts them in his mouth. There they will stay for I think less than a month. The male does not eat for the duration of the egg's inncubation.

The eggs will hatch and the small identical fry will swim for shelter. The parents will eat the fry.

I would take the female out when the time comes as well as the male when he is finished.

I think it could work but Banggai normally hand out under an overhang or near a cave. If you can provide enough rock to give them a place to dart into then I think it could work.

The parents will eat the offspring.

I just want to mention, I also think you'd have much better odds of success with a 29 gal...

I'm sure of it, but there is very little real estate where my 10 gal tank is now and I don't have a better space for now. I am planning a 20 gal at work, I'll consider the possibility.
