hi guys, i am out of instant ocean for my next water change and i am thinking about switching to tropic marin. but some people tell me it is not a good idea to switch salts because some bad things can happen. is this true, does anyone have experience with this? is it only certain salt combos?

I think a lot of people may be paranoid about salt switching after what was going-on with the Crystal Sea Bioassay stuff that Dr. Ron was recommending a couple of years back. A lot of people tried it and lost some of their SPS corals. Others had no trouble.
If you don't have SPS corals, personally I wouldn't be too worried about switching salts (I have used both IO and TM in a softie tank and not had any issues). If you have SPS corals and/or you just want to be cautious try a small water change first and watch for any negative reactions.
