Ok I know my Damsels probally wont bother a Cleaner Shrimp.

I have a Oarnge spot/stripe Prawn Goby. Now will the Goby see the Cleaner as lunch, a buddy to hang out with, or just ignore it?

Gaaa I have never owned a fish that when spotting a shrimp didnt break out the grill and bbq sauce...but tomorrow Im going to buy a skunk cleaner shrimp if you guys think it will work with the Goby.

Thanks Len..I know Im just being paranoid but I have always had mean predator fish, so the idea of tossing in a 20 dollor snack.....Mmm so on the shrimp just a slow aclimation (2 hours or so with a drip) should be ok right?

And the rockwork is finnished so he will have lots of places to hide when molting.

Two hours seems long, I have did the 20 min temp + exchanging 1 cup of water every five minute acclimation method and was fine.

I do believe that acclimation using the method of patients works. Do your two hour drip!

What kind of cleaner shrimp?

Its going to be one of the skunk cleaners. My LFS always has dozens in stock. Lysmata Amboinensis.

Well my LFS runs specific gravity of 1.16-1.18

I run 1.24 1/2 1.26 so I take my time with the drip thing. 20 minutes floating for tempature adjustment then about two hours acclimating to the salinity change. Replace the water volume in the shipping bag about 4 to 5 times total.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but want to add a new tip a fellow hobbiest taught me this afternoon. When you do your temp aclimation, Don't put the bag in your tank. get a glass thermometer (those cheesy kind that float) and fill your sink with water. Put the glass thermometer in your tank for a few minutes and record what the reading says. (I know they are off but for this it doesn't matter) When the thermometer reaches a steady reading, take it to the sink and adjust your water in the sink to the same reading. Now your sink water and tank water are the same temp. Float the bag in the sink and add your tank water to aclimate salinity etc. The reason for this tecnique is so you don't pollute your reef with any nasties on the bag! Inks and oils wont transfer to your tank this way. I just learned this today so It may be a bit overkill to do but I like the sound reasoning in doing it....hope it sounds like a good idea.

Well when transfering an anemone or coral and trying to avoid the nasties in the bag itself this may be a good idea to avoid accidently dumping the water in your tank....I guess.

Either way you have to dump the bag out in a container or net before you place the specimen in the tank to avoid mixing the water. Why not just float it and keep small bucket handy?

Well its official my fish are stupid.

The Damsles run away scared of the Shrimp and the Goby kept trying to circle behind and bite it...sigh...took the Goby out and rearranged the rocks. The shrimp wants to clean em but...welll maybe they will figure it out in a day or two.

They are not typical host fish for cleaner shrimp to clean. Thats wy they run from it and try to bite it. Typical fish that would let it are tangs, angels, fish like those. Larger fish.

Mmm what Tang will stay small enough for a 55? I plan on a Flame Angel a few months from now but havent really looked at tangs.

Lol I did. Never dawned on me that the size of the fish would make any diffrence.

How big do the scopes/scole (spellcheck) tangs get? They have one at my lfs that looks kinda neat. Small now about 3 inches long. I did a google at wetweb and looked through the tang section but havent found it yet.

Ignore the spellcheck duh its a kole tang.

Enough LR should keep your pH stable, my molt every 2 weeks. Free food for the fish. Your goby will ignore it. Many cleaners don't actually clean either.
