sanjay, just offering this as a helpful observation, don't take it the wrong way .....


between the soliciting behavior of the angels you've mentioned, and what i see in the photos-they do appear to be not 'clean'- the pic of the one angel in 'mid-turn' seems to show a patchy skin, and in the top photos there appears to be (though it could be on the glass) a spot or two

Yes, they are not completely "clean", but its not that bad. It could eventually get worse, but I am hoping it improves with good water quality and environment. The spots on that one fish are mostly from partciculates in the water...the sand is still blowing around a bit. And the angle on the other one makes the patchyness appear worse due to the flash reflecting off the scales.

So far I am concerned about one of them. It really wants to get cleaned by the hippo. I will have to get a cleaner shrimp today for it. The other 2 are constantly picking at rocks.

I know these fish do not have a good track record from what I have read up on them. But there lies the challange

Hi Sanjay,

My experience with new reef tanks is that fish in them are especially susceptible to parasites, pretty much like the way fish only tanks where. However, in them we could treat the tank with copper or formalin.
On the other hand, in established reef tanks parasites seem to be at a disadvantage, possibly because there are so many inverts to eat the new tomites before they can find a host.

My advice is to add inverts before adding many fish.

Here are some of the corals that I added to the tank. Now these are what I call frags . Thanks to my friend RichK and PSU tank, i got some decent size frags so I could avoid having the tank look empty for a long time.

Here you can see one of the vortech pumps blowing right through the channel.

Those are some nice stater colonies. You tank should grow in a lot quicker with that size "frags".

I was curious if you found that any of your rock "stands" move with the flow you have? Seems they might be a bit top heavy, can you estimate the weight of the stone you used to anchor the piles? did you glue the LR to the rod? I just skimmed through the pages loved the photos but did not see what type of LR it was?

Only one of them is actually moving. Its the one that is closest to the vortech pump, and where the contact between the 2 rocks is more of a single point contact. Most of my flow, is through wide nozzles so the velocity is not quite high as one would typically get with narrower nozzles.

THe LR is not glued to the rod. The rods are glued to the base. If you go in with your hand and shake the structures they do shake, but the water flow alone does not do it (except with that one peice). I will glue that one down to the neighboring rock with some epoxy.

I used the tonga ultra rock... for all I know it could have come from fiji.

I used 1/2" Fiberglass rod. I got it online from McMaster Carr. I tried the 1/2" acrylic and pvc rods, but they are not as rigid.
