Before you read any further I want you to keep in mind my state at the time. I had worked two double shifts back to back with 5 hours sleep and was only getting 4 hours sleep before repeating this. No, it's not overtime. I was very tired. Came home and being dedicated to my reefs, took a quick glance at them. Well, what do I see. In the nano, my boxer crab. Now I only see him about once a month. So there he is and what does he have in his claw? An anemone. I bought him w/o one. Now I bought a new (unknown) coral 4 days earlier and it had a single aiptasia on it. I was going to kill it I just didn't then. So I'm thinking wow where did he find a anemone? Then horror over took me. My lord, he is swinging around aiptasia. So I capture the little guy and the two won't part company and so I just cut off his claw. Have been living with terrible guilt ever since. Soooo sorrrry

If the crab was in the wild, it might be screwed. In captivity, chances are it'll just grow back the arm in 2-3 molts.

Sorry, I know, I have a sick (demented and warped) sense of humor. - Just seems kinda funny to me that this poor crab was so heavily smote by its God for using a tool of ill favor.

Like Len said, it should be fine in time...

Joes Juice my friend.. - Very much worth the tiny investment. ;)

I thought they loose them from time to time in the wild any way. From my FW days fiddler crabs would loose one from time to time during a molt.

This is better than what I did after working a similar schedule. Fell asleep at the wheel and rear end a lady. Luckly she was not hurt and I only spent the weekend in the hospital :(

Please don't repeat this when the wife wont put down the remote

  That's great! That poor little crab probably thinks you're a big bully now. Hopefully you'll still see him once a month. I'm sure he'll be fine though.

OMG! Poor little one. But I deeply loathe aiptasia, so I can understand your panic.

Oh, and about seeing him only once a month? Well, now it's gonna be less than that, especially if he sees you first!

What's really bad is I put him on a dinner plate and cut his claw off with a butcher knife. He went reeling backwards as fast as any crab on earth. So I know it hurt like hell, of course. Thou shall not fondle aiptasia lest I pluck off thoust hand.

If you had titled this "How do I chop the Aiptasia off my crab's arm?" it would have turned into a 20 page thread I bet.

I'm kinda surprised the PETA people aren't up in arms about this.

You have to sleep some time & when you do I hope that poor little crab crawls so far up your arse its remaining claw flashs at you every time you brush your teeth.
