For a system that large I would contact some of the companys and see about having a custom skimmer made.

my reef creations make huge skimmers and i like the company loads because of the great reviews as well as the build quality. they have several configurations for large tanks and some can handle somthing stupid sized like shamu's tank. also precesion marine also makes large becket skimmers just have a look on the website. like them to and if you want custom then there usually willing to work with ya but i think they have a standard model that will handle the tank.
a mrc mr-4 is suposed to handle 900 gallons and is less than half the price.

Deltec, bubble king, euroreef, and H&S make large needle wheel skimmers.

doubling the capasity is somthing that is usually done with smaller skimmers because pople try to make there products look better. when dealing with a skimmer this size it is alomst considered industrial and the recomended products should be spot on. skimmer sizing has most to deal with bioload and this is and unknown factor for the designer and is diffrent for each and every tank. you should do fine with the recomendation of the producer as long as you are not craizily overpopulating the tank.

I would not worry about overskimming. If you want to get a bigger skimmer or two skimmers, it is not a problem.

Is there anything I need to be really looking for in a skimmer.

have seen a few. can someone tell me what the beckett system is or means?

Regards Darren

P.S. I dont want to come up shot because i never did it right in the first place.

as for overstocking here is a rough wish list and I am aware some of these fish will be out due to compatibility and the fact they may eat my shrimp.

The beckett skimmers use a beckett fountan head to inject air in to the skimmer. They work better with pressure rated pumps. myreefcreations.com is one vendor that makes the beckett style skimmers. They have their own set of advantages/drawbacks.

a becket injector is a fancy type of venturi. it was originaly designed to be used in ponds i believe and someone figured out it would work well for skimmers. these have become the most popular type of skimmer because they work well and are very simple. the only drawback that i know of is the large pump required to power them but in a tank as large as yours it is not that big of deal. for instance it would be in impracticle to run a large pump to skim a 40-80 gallon tank but most would also think anything over 1-200 gallons to be most practicaly skimmed this way. i like the aqua c skimmers like you were looking at but i like them because i did not want to run a large pump on my 40 gallon breeder tank.

things that i would look for in a skimmer would be
1.good build quality
2.good design
3.ease of cleaning
4.simplicity of operation.

heat is an issue for some people and large pumps might transfer more to the water but it depends on where you live if this is going to be a problem and what kind of pump you get will also have a lot to do with it

hope this helps.

thanks for the pics, is that skimmer a aquajet, and the red tap in the photo is that to bypass the system when medicating of feeding?

also is that brand an aquajet from australia, looks very similar. So to clarify the becket type skimmers can handle greater pressuse is that correct?

I must admit i like the very first one i saw the AquaC EV-2000 Spray Injection Protein Skimmer it seems versatile in that it can be situated anywhere, simple to use and i believe the collection cap can be altered to go directly into a drain...i think! not 100% sure

I just feel like im getting more and more confused...lol

I like the "my reef creations" skimmers, have read the testimonials however however they said they were only for the continental us. So back to the drawing board, i must admit the first one i looked at was this

AquaC EV-2000 Spray Injection Protein Skimmer

http://www.reefonline.com.au/shop/product_info.php?products_id=220

have like this from the start can you give your opinion, and if its ok what pump would you put. As for heat the fish room will have thorostatically controlled cooling fan.

you seem to be set on the idea of the aquac skimmer, so i say go with it. it is a good skimmer and should do great for your setup, i was trying to sugest other options due to the cost. on there website they give the optional pumps that work on the skimmers and which ones work best. i wish i could have helped more. angry j
