On the OM 8 way, I keep waffling between that and tunze streams. The end cost is very close if you put the revolutions on the 8-way. Currently I'm leaning towards the stream as there is more ablity to controll and change flow. Perhapes both, a couple streams and the 4-way.

Hi there Rob Top,

can you explain streams? I also really need to read more info on water flow/movement and the efects of, I know it assists in coral waste removal and aslo know corals will close off if in direct flow, anything else i should be aware of?

man i just checked out the website for the revoulutions and they are cool. i have a regualr two way valve i payed way to much for and this seems like a rocken idea. think i would be good for a very large tank, so for me it has limited uses but for your large setup i think it could be a winner. "have no personal experence with them" but look to be a good idea at least.

Hi Daren,

With all the questions you have and from what I have read from you in another (famous) thread, aren't you getting yourself a bit over your head here with such large tanks? If I recall right, a week ago, you were not even sure about what a skimmer was for.

G'day Chris RD
no skimmer, still learning about such things however we are not planning to have coral, now I am not sure but is a skimmer to rid the tank of waste produce by coral, I think lol

One thing that transpires from your posts is that money doesn't seem to be a problem for you. The equipment you are looking at will cost you a HUGE amount of money, not only in initial cost but also the electrical bill for running the whole thing.

Furthermore, not even knowing what a skimmer does and such things seems to prove that you are a novice in this hobby. Setting up a system of nearly 1,000 gal might be a bit out of your league for the moment. I mean no insult by that. I just wouldn't want you to spend all that money and have a ton of problems that all novice makes (myself included) resulting in fish loss and more money spending.

I know that larger tanks are more stable and are therefore easier to care for... but let's not go overboard, if you know what I mean. Anyway, it's your money and you're the boss. If you decide to go ahead with your plan, I wish you the best of luck!

G'day Sponge Bob,

I realise its a huge undertaking and thats something I dont take lightly. Its why reasearch and reading precede any purchase I make. It will be some time before I buy anything to do with this project. However all literature I have read has stressed research research research so I thought i would start just that.

As for power in our new home we are installing 3 household wind turbines to compensate for what I will call "extras" :)

And there is no offence taken, i have eyes open as to the challenge.

I appreciate the post

regards Darren

Darren,

You are on the right path my friend when you say research, research, research. Another key word in this hobby is patience. It's ressuring to know that you do not plan on getting all this huge setup right away and that you are willing to give time to have all the information needed and understood throughly before hand. I still think you are going for a MEGA tank and that it may cause you some problems (gawd,I wish you don't get those, that's for sure). If I understood you correctly, you do have a smaller tank right now and are running it. That's good. It will give you some hands-on experience while you do your research.

If I can be of any help, I will try to. Best of luck to you and happy readings!!! SW is a fascinating world! :D

Kind regards,
