The fission nano skimmer is neat. Made just for 10-12 gallon tanks.
Very small about 8 inches tall and about as big as a coffee cup around.

From a website.

The Current USA Fission Nano-Skimmer is the smallest protein skimmer in the world, measuring only 6.5” high and 2” in diameter. Powered by an efficient air injection pump, the patented design rips bubbles into a vortex foam froth, breaking apart proteins and organics, removing them from the tank. Easy-to-install.

Features:
The air injection submersible pump pushes 84 gallons per hour through the skimmer, mixing bubbles and organics in a tornado fashion. The collection cup easily lifts off for easy cleaning. The pump can be connected so it is next to, beside, or under the skimmer.

The unique submersible design fits into almost any nano reef, nano cube, nano-style aquarium system (6.5" H x 2" Dia.). Will fit the JBJ Nano Cube.

Includes a submersible venturi pump, protein skimmer, suction cups for mounting, hanging kit and two connection elbows.

The Fission Nano-Skimmer is a perfect addition to any Current USA Aquapod or other nano-reef tank that can accommodate a power cord over the side of the tank and a 6.5" X 2" protein skimmer.

I researched these guys recently, and the general concensius was that they didnt do a whole lot except throw micro bubbles into the tank. Has anyone really used one? Or do we just have to rely on the manuf. saying its the greatest thing ever haha.

There is another post in here..on the nano forum I believe were some people say they have seen it in action. It does blow some bubbles but dont all skimmers take time to "break" in and blow bubbles to some extent?

I seen it in action...not too pleased. Micro bubbles everywhere in the display. Skimmers that small can not produce a good bubble size to be effective. Your best bet is to do weekly water changes, relegiously. I have seen some small 20 gallon reef system thrive without a skimmer, but it made some use of macro algae growing in the display. It even had some SPS and a nice looking tri-color acro growing in it.

Most skimmers that size lean to be ineffective.

i wonder if i could mod it to make the rise tube longer. That would seem to be the efficency problem, not the bubble size. The smaller the bubbles the better ..actually.

anyone know the diamater of the rise tube???

How about a AquaC Remora nano, or if you are sumping try to squeeze an AquaC urchin? I have a Remora on my 15 long and it works fine.

We (ya right we like the women will do anything but watch while I do the work) are going to be setting up a 29 high with seahorses in the next week or so.

Im going to buy one of these and see how it performs on my tank, if it does well Ill pop it on the horse tank.

For the record Im not crazy about trying seahorses but the women insist..and I have learned over the years to just nod my head yes and say yes dear.

How fun would a reef tank be without a sump? Thats half the fun of setting one up. Ive seen many built using a 10 and plenty of room for skimmer and heater. Heres one of mine using a 10 in the stand.
