Some good discussions going on in other Reefs.org forums made me wonder: how did you become interested in this hobby?

edit: added one more option to the poll

Sushi Bar...

Actually, have been keeping fish (betta) in jars since 4 yrs old, and it just progress into brackish then salt. Mostly the diversity of colors and life in coral reef that facinated me and make me stay in this hobby.

I've always been interested in the hobby, being a marine buff and all. I never wanted to get into a hobby that raped the see, and always thought everything just died. Saw a few insane websites, and was hooked on the coral farming angle.

i kept FW and through visits to the local shop i fell in love with reefkeeping. from there it quickly evolved into an obsession.

the whole process from my first FW tank to first reef tank took less than a year.

My Pop bought me two goldfish "bubbles and lonely" when I was five, kept 'em alive til I was 10 and then my fish habit fractaled as much as avian flu til its current iteration of LPS/polyp reef. So I guess it was family inspired.

started working at a pet store in college breeding tree pythons and tortoises . . . started taking an interest in the display reefs and was later moved to that department as well. . . it was nice having some knowledge and experience before attempting my first tank (30 gallon)! still learning though!!

Voted other.

First fish I kept wasnt a fish perse, it was tadpoles, crayfish, small snapper turtles. Ummm never owned a real aquarium in those days just metal pails and old pots/pans. (1960,s era)

Kept real FW tanks in the late 70,s early 80,s and one marine tank.

Reef keeping is a whole new world to me but I have always loved the ocean and now that the technogoly and access to live rocks and proper filters are available thought I would give it a try.

 Awe C'mon man!! I figured since some here had their first FW tanks set up at five or ten I could reveal that I set mine up at 18. Also, I could never afford SW so I had a tank put on my leg. :D

Wife bought me a 10 gallon for our 1st Christmas together. She really didn't understand how addictive of a personality I have. By May of that year I had 6 tanks. Now it's 19, and I need another

I am not interested in this hobby

I really don't know why I even have a salt water tank.

Oh that's right, my daughter wanted a bigger tank and when we went to get one I saw this bow front tank and lost my mind.

Anyone seen it?
