I pay $260 a month on a balanced billing budget. It will probably go up another $20 a month next year, maybe more if they raise the increased fuel cost charge.

---- A single halide and some pumps really doesn't add a whole lot to your electric bill.---

Funny you should say this. I just did the math on my c f lights and pumps. I'm so far over my electricity baseline allotment that the price to actually run one pump cost me between $21 -$32 per month! depending if I base it on the rate for being 31% -100% over baseline or 101% and over. Needless to say I'm taking down at least 1 tank in the next few weeks.

i have 2 wonderful ways of saving money on utility bills.

1) live in england. i do, no need for a/c units and fresh water for my tank just falls from the sky. a lot of it. constantly.

2) live with your parents. except they say that i'm only allow 3 tanks (one 'dry' for my gecko, on semi, for a crab, and one reef) in my bedroom, seems my mum is not happy about my 4' reef tank in my 1st floor room, right above her head......

I feel your pain, dude.

I think I've lowered my bill substantially this month, and hopefully I'm right. Otherwise, to England I move.

My first tankless bill came in at $130 (down from $160) gas + elec. We don't have air conditioning, except for what Jesus provides in the form of a 'marine layer.' Today it is 10° F warmer here than it was in Chicago when I left this morning.

$870! My rent is $580 a month 8O Damn!

Boy am I glad I moved out of Cali, just before the heat wave.

We don't even have an AC unit in the apartment because temperatures normally don't rise above 83 in the summer. Our "hot spell" lasted 4 days and it was only 97.

Len, you need to move to Oregon...or England

I've had my reef tank less than a week. I bought an established (used) tank last weekend. I didn't consider the electric bill at the time. Yesterday, it was 108 here and it looks like the heat is here to stay for a while.

As a joke, my bf made up a photo of me holding a sign that says "Will work for fish". Might turn out to be true.
