I have read numerous articles about dissolving kalkwasser before diluting it in RO/DI water. I was just curious about everyone's opinion on this matter before I plan to do it with my reef tank. Any help would be appreciated.

iration besides the good one CharlesR posted, here's another article on using vinegar/kalk

http://www.reef-aquarium.net/resources/ ... asser.html

I've never had a need to do it that way as I didn't have tanks that required that level of Ca. I just use the slurry method or slow drip, and got great results. But a lot depends on how your system is set up and what corals you have.

Whatever you do, do not over use the vinegar, it's very easy (and tempting) to add enough vinegar so your kalk mix literally runs clear. Now while you'll probably have no issues with pH and you'll get all the great calcium and alkalinity you'll need, you'll also get a bunch of carbon based algae foods, I've noticed massive algae outbreaks shortly after doing this and as a result, I don't bother with vinegar at all.
