So, would the Octopus 110 recirc skimmer be big enough for my 65g +10+sump tank? It is rated as only 90g at www.premiumaquatics.com , but other stores rate it at 90?

Thats a pretty big ratings jump. If it is only good for 90 it isnt worth upgrading from my current skimmer IMO.

What are your general thoughts?

Hey Snow man!

I can speak for Aqua C. I really like the product that I have. It is a ev120 skimmer. They also have HOT skimmers. Here is a link to AquaC. They also have a contest every once in a while to win a free skimmer. The only catch is that you send a pic of what you are running and they use a survey from you experience. You never knwo you might be the next lucky one.

I know that my skimmer will operate on a 200 gal moderately stocked. But for right now I have it in a 30 gallon sump with a mag 5, and a lightly stocked 90 gallon.

Did you buy it already?

You say that PA rates it at 90g and other places at 90? :?

First of, recirculating skimmers are going to be much more efficient than non-recirculating needlewheels. I would have gone with a bigger skimmer, personally, but overall I definitely think you'll be happier with this over your AquaC.

oops.. other places rate it at around 130g

I did buy it but am in the process of getting a refund from the company. Once I purchased it I never received an email of ship confirmation. I called VARIOUS times and they said it had been shipped.. I recently called back again and they said that it was on backorder. I'm still waiting on my CC to be credited I fully expect to have to go through the CC company to get my $ $ back. These guys seem like they are understaffed and way too unorganized to keep up with things. I'll be buying my skimmer at www.premiumaquatics.com

I've dealt with them before on various occasions for big purchases and they are awesome.

Interesting, have not heard one bad thing about marinesolutions until now. Not that it sounds that bad, anyhow.

Well, if you haven't purchased it yet, why not go bigger if you're having concerns? Also, just go with the needlewheel and make it recirculating yourself. If you go with the 150 (which will most definitely serve you well. It compares to the ASM G2) for example ($290 for the recirculating from MS), you'll save $165 if you just go with the needlewheel ($125 from MS). Ask anyone here, it's very easy to make it recirculating. Think about it. Hope that makes sense and helps you.

makes perfect sense, but I have to have one that can run external to my sump. The recircs are the only ones set up like that I think.
