I will probably get jumped on this one....but, I have a 46 bow with a 250 watt MH and tons of macro algae.....is there any tangs that I could get away with keeping?

Maybe a Chevron??

I disagree. I don't think any tang should be kept in a tank under 75 gallons. That Kole Tang can grow up to 7 inches in length and will therefore need at least 70 gallons. I recommend that you don't keep any tang in a tank that size.

That funny, I had my kole tang for three years, started in a 29 gal., then to a 55 gal. and then and now it is in a 150 gal. no problems. 8)

Well I'm just saying what most people would recommend. Anyways, I have a Kole Tang also. Other than the size, you also have to take into account its disposition. Even in my tank (75 gallons) it is pretty territorial, even with fish that go nowhere near its territory. That could be an issue in a 46 gallon.

Hey i understand what you are saying, maybe it is the only fish or the biggest fish in the tank. That would work

Even the smaller species are active lateral swimmers. I would not consider keeping one long term in a tank that size. Would it survive? probably. Would it thrive? doubtful. Confinement stress plays a part in long term health of many ornamental fish. Cramp them and stress hormones kick in which can inhibit immune function, stunt growth and contribute to other health problems. Wait untl you have the bigger tank and then get one and enjoy watching it move around the way it should.

I'm partial to the Tomini when it comes to bristletooth tangs. It's a very attractive fish. It's funny how much their price ranges are. I've seen them go from $22-$120 :?

Since you're going to upgrade anyway, either the kole or tomini would be a good choice. I don't think either would exceed more than 5 inches if raised in captivity.

Ditto on the tomini if you plan on upgrading. It's much nicer looking than a kole with a similar disposition.

I have no idea. The MarineCenter has them listed at $120

I've seen them (rarely) locally go from $25-$60. Same size, too. The fins seem to photograph yellow, whereas, all the ones I've seen in person have orange fins.
