My LFS has a baby ( 3-4 inch) Wondering if anyone has one in their Reef? I don't have any real small fish but I do have Cleaner, Fire and Peppermint shrimp which are all adult size.

I had a long nosed hawkfish for about a year in my Reef.

I have no shrimp though.

Great fish, very photogenic, loved to hang out on my fingerleathers.

I never got it to really get large, I think more than daily feedings are necessary as it was always hungry.

Its not really known as a jumper, but I found mine behind the tank the other day, I thought it had gotten eaten by my monster brittle star, but it turned out that a new clownfish had chased it out of the tank.

I have no doubt that it will eat small shrimp but full size Peppermints.Cleaners and Fire Shrimp? I'm not so sure about. Anyone else care to comment?

I was recently considering purchasing a long nose hawk about the same size as the one you have in mind. According to my lfs he will eat shrimp of any size by digging his mouth down into them. I wouldn't try it if it were up to me.

Longnose hawks will grab and smash larger shrimp into pieces then eat them if they are too large to swallow whole. Mine occasionally eats peppermint shrimp I bring back from the gulf and loves ghost shrimp.

You could probably get away with keeping them with a cleaner provided the cleaner was established first and the hawk was never allowed to go hungry.

:( Awe!

I don't remember reading this before. I had planned on adding a hawk one of these days.
What's another good choice for a fish with annimated behavior and personality?

I guess I should have been tipped off when I asked the LFS guy to feed it and he threw in a small ghost shrimp. Oh well, I passed on the Hawk and got me a little Foxface Rabbitfish instead.
Thanks for the replies.

If you want a fish with personality get a midas blenny Escenius midas. I would strongly suggest you have a well covered tank however - they are notorious jumpers.
