10aga with 15W Life-Glo2 6700K and 15W Marine-Glo and two CoraLife 10W 50/50's.

So I was at my doctors office getting my yearly checkup. During which she tells me that I have been spending to much time in the sun and it has damaged my lower lip. Funny thing is I dont spend a whole lot of time in the sun. I spend most my time indoors. We talk more on the subject and then she tells me that it must be my saltwater nano tanks lamps as I sit in front of the tank for long periods of time watch my tank and reading.

Im a bit confussed. I always thought the combination of water and tempered glass would sheild us from any issues related to light exposure. Can some one clarify? Not sure what to think on this subject. Anyway she told me to wear sunscreen when in front of my tank.

There shouldn't be that much UV emitted to begin with, and if it has to go through glass, and water, you are pretty safe.

If there is something precancerous on your lip, get to a dermatologist as quickly as possible.

IMO this would be a concern with direct exposure to MH lamps, but even those are always protected with a UV shield. I wouldn't expect fluorescent lighting to do much. If I were you I would definitely go to a dermatologist, and try to think of any other exposures you may have that are causing it. Good luck and I hope it's not serious.

She is a retired air force doctor. I asked my sister about it. My sister is a nurse practitioner. Anyway she looked at it and said it was no big deal.

I just wanted to ask about it because it sounded off and threw me for a loop. I wasnt worried about anything, I just wanted to ask just incase I was missing something.

Funny thing is I just had a checkup not even 6 months ago and my doc didnt say anything at that time or the time before that.

Off topic....
My wifes grandpa had a quadruple bypass surgery and six months later on a follow up visit he complained of lung pain. He had full blown irreversible lung cancer. You would think they would notice something like that on an MRI or CATSCAN considering the lungs are right next to the heart. Moral of the story. If your not compaining about it, your doctor most likely isnt looking for it.

One of my close friend's father was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Three years ago he made repeated visits to the Dr because of pain. He kept telling them something was wrong. They kept telling him nothing was wrong, it was just his diet. Now that he has leukemia, they have gone back and looked at those tests from 3 years ago. Sure enough, he had leukemia then too, but the Dr's were idiots and didn't realize it. If it was caught back then, he would have had a good chance of beating it. Now, 3 years later, he may only have weeks to live. Moral of the story, EVEN IF you are complaining about it, they still might not find it. Everyone needs to be very careful and trust their instincts when they know something is wrong. Get 2nd and 3rd opinions.

FWIW I used to work in the indoor tanning industry so I've got a lot of background in fluorescent lights and UV.

The bulbs you mention have essentially no UV output, the glass tube of the bulb itself will block it. Fluorescent bulbs that are designed to output UV (reptile bulbs, tanning bulbs, etc.) require special quartz tubes which is part of the reason they are so expensive.

Your doctor is out to lunch.
