feeding sun coral

ok i have brought back my sun coral from near death. thanks to the advice i got from everyone here. i have been taking the sun coral out of the tank every night to feed it, now that it is healthy is there an easy way to feed them. my problem is that when i try to feed the sun corals my clown steals all the food and so does my coral banded shrimp this is very frustrating. help.

I had the same problem, for a while I used the 2 litre of coke bottle method of cutting the top off, drilling a hole in the cap, inserting air tubing and creating a "bowl" around the coral that food gets into but no other critter can. That got to be a hassle so I moved the coral closer to teh top but under a ridge out of direct MH light. Now I use a turkey baster to feed and also use it to shoo away would be thiefs. When my cleaner shrimp tries to go for the steal I hit him with a blast of tank water and it deters him. Hope that helps.

I feed mine every night or every other night due to work schedule. Mine has grown new polyps and is very healthy, full expansion at night, almost larger than a softball now when expanded. Lots of new polyps. I feed it often and that is direct target feeding with large chuncks of meat. By large I mean way to big for sps.

i have been feeding mine everyday also. i am still finding it hard to feed in the tank, i tried to feed just a few min ago and my clown(clarki) took the food right out of the corals mouth :evil: my wife laughs at me cause i am yelling at the fish, she said fish are kicking my butt. he likes to bite my hand. i don't find it funny she does. so i guess it's back to pulling it out of the tank to feed it. funny thing is that my wife wanted the sun poylps and i have to feed it 8O

Waymack97, I can totally understand your frustration. Studies show that fish tanks reduce stress. Ive had tanks that have had me raging mad. It suck when you try to introduce new tankmates and they become expensive lunch, for example. I must admit though, If I were sitting back watching you get attacked by a clown fish and yelling at your tank. Im sure I too, would find it very amusing.
I just set up a second softy tank, labeled as the wifes. She gets to choose the corals and I maintain it. Almost as if she has a tank service at her disposal. I am trying to find where to draw the linereagrding daily maintanance in stocking as I dont want a full time job with two tanks.

it's worth the trouble, the sun corals are awesome after you feed them. the orange and yellow really brighten the tank up. and they grow fast. i have little babies coming up all over the rock they are on. you should get some for your wife, so you can feed them.

I reduced feeding to once a week because it is growing too many heads. I don't want to feed it for 30 minutes.
