I have a 15 g tank that Im using as a sump. right now its just a place for the water to drain to and be pumped up. I need to install some baffles and so forth to create some chambers and get rid of bubbles. I don't like using my filter sock to accomplish this. Anyone have any hints, clues, or ideas about how to make it into a working sump? I wouldn't be opposed to a big section in middle for a fuge later on.

any pictures of DIY's??

Thanks.

I just took pieces of plexiglass and siliconed them in where I wanted them

Works great and its less filling...

There are ways to do it with glass or acrylic and put rubber window seals on the outside so the baffles can be moved, removed, cleaned, whatever. I think Rich linked it here one time but I can't seem to find it.

I just silcone in glass panes. The rubber gasket thing is a neat idea. I little hint is CD cases make grate supports while siliconing in baffels.

I recommend the same since more than likely you'll want to change it later on. You can also use glass which will bond to the glass tank easier. (Make sure you go with 1/4" glass instead of 1/8" if you go with glass! My skimmer's pump's vibration cracked one of my baffles after a couple of months... Still cracked since I'm lazy!)

But B, how big's your 15G? I have a skimmer, a return, and a fuge section in my 29G sump and I think it's tight. You might want to leave out the fuge if you're pressed for size. Also make sure you have the baffles about 2" apart since smaller will make the water travel through much faster therefore causing the bubbles to travel through also instead of rising to the top.

Good luck! :D
