What in blue blazes did I bring home

So I found this guy on the wall. He has an oval shell with weeds growing on it. The other side of him looks like a snail bottom. I tried to pull him off but he suction cupped himself to the wall.

Quite possibly a Cellana sp. (Limpet), harmless herbivore.

Looks like a limpet to me too. (say that 3 times fast!)

Your right I looked it up and it is a limpet. I brought home some rocks and I guess it was on one.

That's odd. I've had limpets living and breeding in my tank for the last 8 years.

My skimmer is/was full of limpets. When they get too big I remove them and drop them into the tank. They usually live.
I killed about 100 of them when I cleaned my skimmer during the tank switch.
There was no way to get them out of the skimmer since it was such a tight squeeze.

Learn something new everyday, I guess. I always thought they don't usually do well, particularly those that collect offshore in cold water area of California. Maybe those from the tropic do much better in reef tank :?

I've had systems straight up plagued by limpets! The tropicals can breed like no ones business in our tanks
