gonna setup a 20g system. I am gonna use a current usa 150w hqi. /led fixture.

so the next choice is the skimmer.

I am also gonna grab two of the small tunze nano-streams for the system as well.

here are the picks. help me out

I had an aquaC remora on a 20 gal tank. I could not get it to do much. Most of the posts I read about it I came to the conclusion that my house is to active. It would start to foam then just stop. I am sure it helped but the only thing it pulled out was a greenish yellow liquid that was pretty thin. I now have a 29 gal and am thinking of trying it again.

Of the three, the remora is the weakest choice but is definitely workable.

I'm hearing very mixed remarks about the new deltec MCE300 hang on, and at least one person who remarked that he didn't feel it was outperforming his remora. If you decide to go with a deltec, I'd just go whole hog and get the MCE600 instead.

The tunze seems to be remarkably good for it's size and price point. The negative to it is that it requires mounting inside the tank and is fairly intolerant of much in the way of water level changes.

But you nailed it pretty much, these are the worthwhile choices in that size range.

MCE 600 is a solid performaning skimmer. Its a great low profile skimmer. Theres a good article on AdvancedAquarist about it.

I do not like any Tunze skimmers, besides the nano. I believe the price vs performance is not met with any of there skimmers besides the nano. The downside of the nano is that it goes inside the tank. Its great if you have no room on the place where you are putting the tank.

The MCE 600 will be over kill and thats my choice, because thats what I am all about. If you have the room...DO IT BIG!

I would use the Remore. I used one on my 29 and it worked great. I did use the in tank overflow.

It may hang lower on a 20 g than the bottom of the tank though. 20 g's are 16' or 12" high and the Remora is 17.5".

im with andy.. i know lots of ppl who favor deltecs just because they are so freaking expensive.. but I think a remora would do just as good on your small tank.

you know what is funny? as soon as i posted the poll. I thought about adding the mce600.

the nano caught my eye due to the fact i would love to get this thing as close to the wall as possible. and at almost double the price as the 300 it is something that would have to be seriously considered.

I would love to see the tunze in action for the mere fact that it is the only skimmer they offer that is priced well for anticipated performance.... the inside the tank thing doesn't bother me so much. I want a trouble free unit.

I hear nothing but outstanding comments about the deltecs... even LEN has one!!! (even thought we might not see an updated pic of it though!) :)

i guess i will think it over this weekend. I wish the deltecs were sold by a couple of vendors..... the prices are crazy!

No actual review, just comments from folks who have used'em. They seem to be a popular choice to go on Aquapods, as two minutes with a dremel is all that's required to make them fit okay in one of it's rear compartments.

Consensus seems to be that they perform marginally better than a remora does.

i vote the aquac remora pro.
it is basically plug and play and performed well for me.
i have not used the others, so i cannot say anything about them.
this skimmer will also upgrade to a tank double the size
of your current choice, so it will grow with you.

it is nice looking but a tad loud. it may very well end up
being the loudest device. there is a papertowel trick tho
to make it more silent.

Tunze makes some sexy skimmers in my outdated experience.

Agreed. I love my Tunze DOC 9010 :D

I was just checking their site, looks like prices have come way down from what I remember.
