GSP has tanken over my tank - picture

The tank is about 110g, it has 2 250W metal halides, 2 75W atinic power compacts.
Param - temp is 77, calcium is low (read 270), ph, alkalinity, salinity all in normal ranges...
Unfortunately most of my rocks are smaller in nature and the GSB has spread to virtually all of them. So I'm thinking about redoing my aquascaping (ie starting over)....

I've got the same experience as wings. My gsp take off and then fade away. I haven't had any for a while and just got another rock today to give them another shot.
For yours, you should be able to peel them up and rip them off the rocks if you want. See if you can't trade for others things in a local club. Then put small rubble rocks on the edges of the colony you want and it will be easier to remove it when it spreads.

Am I the only one who thinks there is a very interesting aquascaping possibility here? I know this isn't the answer clayko was looking for, but I think you could make a very interesting look dominated by GSPs, sort of like some really nice freshwater planted tanks.

LOL sure there would be. But he would have to want all that GSP in the first place.
I would love a piece of home made rock made into a shape or letters that was covered with GSP. I have a cave in my own tank that I would love to have carpeted with gsp at the entrance.

Is the GSP harming or inhibitting any of the other corals? If not, I would personally leave it. It looks nice IMO. On the other hand, if they're bothering the other corals...
I had a major outbreak of red mushroom corals and they would sting other corals or smother them. Eventually they covered almost 90% of my tank. I finally tore down the entire thing. I traded in all of the small to midsize pieces of rock for several hundred $$ worth of store credit . I moved the larger pieces to my eel tank in the basement where I'll continue to propogate them. I then scraped the remaining mushrooms off the tank walls (put the undamaged ones in the eel tank) and used the store credit to buy some new rock and corals. Unfortunately, the new rock seems to be going through another cycle in my tank and I'm waiting for the algae bloom to subside. :?

I have lost a number of softies and even a few sps. The stuff grows at such a rapid rate by the time I scrape it off with a butter knife, 2 weeks later its back.. I think I'm going to take it into the LFS and exchange for new rock and hopefully some credit...
Yea, isn't it funny how one type of coral can be a challenge for some tanks but a plague to another?
Apparantly my red mushrooms are only a problem for me, but everyone else around here can't get enough of them. That's why the LFS keeps buying them off of me. They even give me their LR rubble for free to keep growing new mushrooms on. Now that I have them in their own propagation tank, I'm no longer anxious about how fast they grow, and I can use them to pay for new corals and fish for my main display.
