So I have 6 saltwater fish and coral stores here in Jacksonville, 3 of them are owned by the same guy. NONE of them have had any decent corals for a month or more. I drove to every store yesterday, two of them were closed even thought the hours posted said they should have been open. THe other 4 had dull colored mushroom and various brownish corals. Whats the deal. Has anyone else had problems shopping?

I know that it is more difficult for ppl to get things in during the summer because of weather in the tropics during this time, but for the most part I've always found corals to be more abundant this time of year. If the stores are owned by the same guy its probably somthing he is doing.

Only three are owned by the same guy. I just hate ordering online cause you pay the same ammount you would at the store....PLUS shipping and handling and you have to wait, and hope it arrives in good condition.

I gotten a few corals from Live Aquaria. 2 small frags and 1 big lobophyllia. All looked spectacular within the first 3 days.

I think that online frag trading is the only way to go--environmentally friendly, high quality pieces. You pay more sometime, but you get what you pay for. My 2 cents.

Hey I live in Jax and yeah there doesn't seem to be much coral worth buying locally. Bioreef is close to where I live and occasionally I'll see something there worth the price they're asking but usually I just order online. You can find a lot better looking stuff. Yeah you have to pay for shipping but if you order multiple pieces at once it's worth it.

I like saltwaterfish.com. They have nice stuff and shipping is free after 79.00 spent.

I'd suggest you look at the items on frags.org. Find someone who has a lot of stuff you like, and make a bulk purchase. I've found that to work pretty well.

Its the same for me. most of the LFS's are not stocking very much. They claim it is hard to get. A LFS in Daytona just got in about 15 pieces today though. Of course that would be a good drive for you.

The LFS's I visit said they had some delays getting stuff in right after the new year because collectors had to get new CITES permits or something like that. But one of them has been getting some nice stuff in recently.

MY favorite LFS has a bunch of nice stuff he is culturing right now but doesnt have the frags for sale yet. He has nice tubs blues, safe crackers, watermelons, AOG, ect... and then some montis like superman, and rainbows.....

Anyway he usually has a nice selection of SPS but he told be his last bali shipment was supposed to have 15 acros and came with 2 or 3 acros a bunch of hydnophora and some montis. He is expecting a new shipment next week though so I dont think it is a issue right now. He also stocks ORA frags and usually has some nice ones, I got a Miami Orchid the other day from him.

I went to That Pet Place in Lancaster PA the other day and got a nice yellow w/ blue polyp monti....thats a big LFS though but they had plenty of live stock....

reefermadness.us seems to have good stuff but lots of wild acros on there, but he has aquacultured stuff also.
