In the 1st pic if your refering to the little tube like things? If it's the same thing i had and has filament like strands that come out they're a type of tube worm i think (don't remember the name) . I had alot of them. It sucked cuz i'd get filament strands all over the place when they got out of hand. Happened mostly when i fed the fish. If not totally disregard me

No, I'm referring to the green thing that's in the "v" of that rock.

I can't tell what the first one is. It looks like it has a hard calcareous base and fleshy tissue, right? This is a wild guess but for some reason, the first genus that pops to mind is Leptoria. It probably isn't though ;) We'll have to see more pics or wait til it gets bigger.

The second looks like it could be a Palythoa polyp to me, possibly P.diurne or something similiar. I get similar hitchhikers on my rocks too.

The first one does have fleshy tissue. The rubble was in the sand and while vaccuming I found this weird thing growing on it. I put it at the top of my tank thinking it might need lighting and it has grown a little in the last month.

The second one is harmless, I presume?

Thanks Len.

I don't do coral ID's as a rule, but:
First picture appears to be a species of Discosoma
and the second picture is a species of Zoanthus.

I like that first picture, Crissy. Looks cool. Keep us updated as it grows.

Yeah, I'm stumped on that first one too. Can you turn the rock and get a better angled picture? Whatever it is it looks really cool.

I think the first might be a budding echinomorpha or phyllia. If it was a discosoma I think the underside would be bending up to catch more light. I don't usually see them that tight to a rock either.

Perhaps even a small fungia.

I also couldnt tell you what it is. I can tell you its not a mushroom of any kind . If you look in the picture real close you can see some classic LPS tentacles coming from underneath that thing. Take good care of it and definately give us more progress pictures. It really does have some cool markings.

I gather you weren't aware that Discosoma spp. have sweeper tentacles.

Well, I dont know every thing about discosoma spp. I do however have 9 species of them in my softy tank and have definately never seen tentacles like that on any of them. I also have never seen many mouths on one like that before. If you could show me a picture of a mushroom with tentacles like a brain and the oral disk characteristics of a pectina or murilina please do.

Yeah I gotta say I have never seen a sweeper tentacle on a discosoma and I can't see how they would even produce one.

I wasn't aware of that either. I've seen them eject their mesenterial filaments when they're stressed out, is that what you're talking about?

The coral in question. I happen to agree with JP; I think it's a stony encrusting coral like an Echino, but it doesn't look like any I've seen before.

Another vote the second is a baby Rock Anemone.

I see your RA and raise you a paly.

Aren't the "is it one or isn't?" debates on aiptasia on reef boards great? They have the potential to go on for aeons....
