LiveAquaria.com says "The Flame Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles".

The only soft coral I have is:
Pipe Organ polyp

I mostly have Large Polyp Stony Corals in the tank:
Candy Cane (Caulastrea furcata)
Elegance (Catalaphyllia jardinei)
Bubble (Plerogyra sinuosa)
Flower Pot (Goniopora)
Hammar/Anchor (Euphyllia paranchora)
Frogspawn (Euphyllia paradivisa)
Brain (Favites)
Brain, Lobophyllia (Lobophyllia hemprichii)
Doughnut (Cynarina deshayesiana)

The only Small Polyped Stony coral I have is one Acropora right now.

I have no clams at this time. How much of a hazard ARE they really to clams?

I have some polyps and other corals that they are not saying are a problem: Pumping Xenia, Green Button Polyps, Yellow Colony Polyps, Starburst polyp, various colored colony polyps, various colored zooanthids, various mushrooms, and bullseye coral.

Any preferences on thin versus thick black vertical lines, and the colors (more orange versus more red) or is beauty in the eye of the beholder? 8O

I searched these forums for information on this topic but couldn't seem to find anything. I swear I read a thread once here about it. Thanks for your help yet again on this topic. :)

Well as I looked at recent topics I noticed this relevant thread (DOH!):

:?

I can find a few answers to my concerns about getting a dwarf angel, ranging from try it and see (maybe in pain) to don't even take the chance.
Does that pretty much sum it up?

My guy at the LFS claims that flames love brains.. I have one in my tank with a clam, galaxia, green star polyp, xenia, and a green hairy mushroom. I have caught him a couple of time picking at my mushroom. Other than that, at least when I am looking he is ok.

My opinion on the matter is their are fish labeled as reef safe some as with caution, etc. Then you always have exceptions. Some fish have different personality's than what the books say. For me my flame is okay.

my flame picks at my candycane corals, so i had to move him to a fish only tank. some people have luck with flames not bothering coral. get them young and get them on reg feeding,

I have had mine since he was knee high to a grasshopper. He has never nipped at any of my corals. I have a highly populated SPS dominated tank with all the usuals as well. I have SPS, LPS, and hammer and galaxea. I have not had an issue with him at all and he is a perfect reef inhabitant. HOWEVER, that is just my experience. Keep in mind it is awful hard to get a fish out of a tank once it is in.
