Sometime last night our new gobie decided to go for a walk on the carpet. Is it common for a gobie (or other fish) to do this? What can be done to prevent it? I currently have no lid or hood on the tank. Mainly for 2 reasons; 1. the new light brackets did not leave enough room for the cover, 2. I am afraid the temp will be difficult to control with a lid. There is a small lip around the top of the tank of about 1/4 inch.

Thanks for your help.

Goby, among othe rfishes, are avid carpet surfers. :(

Best to keep a good cover on it. Good luck.

Depends on thetype of goby, but yes they have a reputation for being jumpers. Noteably the firefish gobies and those that are similar. I don't know about clown gobies but the firefish type of gobies ,which is quite a number of them, are notorious jumpers.

You can use screen or eggcrate to "fence" them in. That way your heat issue is not a probelm.

that is a great idea. I have a ton of that to fix the doors from the dog and kids running it through them. I could fashion something that leave a small opening for feeding but keeps most of it enclosed. WONDERFUL!!! Thanks.

I once made a feeding door "flap" on the back of a 75G hooded tank. That way I could feed the fish and still have screen across the entire back.
