Its probably going to be impossible to tell what it is from the pictures. They were taken with a crappy keychain digital and he won't stay out in the open long enough to get a good picture.Any help would be appreciated. He seems to always school with the squirrel fish.

I cannot tell. But I would like to suggest that you close your blinds/curtains and then take the pictures again - you're getting a lot of external reflections off the glass and it is a large part of the reason the fish is so obscured.

Unfortunatly I can't close the blinds. Its a bay window with no covering.Thank you for trying though.I'll just let him keep growing and see what he turns into. He's already doubled size in 2 months.

Wait until night time, and just leave your tank lights on a little longer and take a pic.

This is the best I can do.I really need a better camera. My husband and I got this fish at a pet store. He thought it looked like a parrot fish and he really wanted one.The people at the store had no clue as to what he was, just something that came in with the rest of the stock. He wasn't even on the list of fish.I gave in and agreed to buy it.It never bothers the other fish and is very shy.It sleeps with the squirrel fish and swims with the squirrel fish and lunar wrasse. Its has a beak-like mouth. It used to be all silver but now is silver with dark spots all over. Its not causing any trouble I would just like to know what it is and how big it will get so I know whether this tank is big enough for it.

Try going to an online fish place like liveaquaria.com and take a peak through their fish to see if it looks like one.

I downloaded it and lightened th epic some. If I had to make a guess I would say it is a rabbit fish.

Does it eat algae, have spines along it's dorsal fin, and have tha same basic shape as this fish?

It does have what looks like a large eye. It could be a type of soldier or squirrel fish too.

You're right Andy it is a Rabbit Fish.I went and looked them up and found one exactly like him.He does eat algae and has the same shape as the one in your picture, just different coloring. His eyes are a bright blue.I guess I have no excuse to get a bigger tank now(that will make my husband happy).Thank you very much for figuring this out for me.I don't usually get something with out knowing what it is.

:)

Rabbit fish are great and very hardy. The spines along it's back are mildly poisonous so be careful when you have your hands in the tank.

My hands don't go in this tank without someone else around to keep an eye on the fish.We have a stone fish in there also.I didn't know the rabbitfish were poisenous so I'll watch for him also.Thank you.
